About this trip
Rongai is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border, and descends via Marangu on the southern side. It sees far less foot traffic than Machame or Marangu, has a gentler gradient on the way up, and tends to be drier since the northern slopes get less rainfall than the south. At around six to seven days it suits climbers who want a quieter, more gradual route without the busier camps of the southern approaches.
