About this trip
Materuni village, on Kilimanjaro's southern slopes above Moshi, is the starting point for a short hike through coffee and banana plantations to the Materuni Waterfall, one of the taller waterfalls on the mountain's lower slopes, dropping around 70 to 90 meters into a forested gorge. Most visits pair the walk with a traditional coffee tour on a local farm, watching coffee cherries picked, roasted over a fire and ground by hand the way Chagga families have done for generations, before tasting the result. It is a popular half day trip from Moshi and works well combined with the Marangu day trip above for a fuller day in the area.
