About this trip
Mikumi National Park sits about four to five hours by road from Dar es Salaam, which makes it the most practical safari option for travelers whose trip starts or ends there rather than in Arusha. Its centerpiece, the Mkata floodplain, is often compared to a smaller Serengeti: open grassland that draws elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and buffalo into view along the main road through the park, with lion and the occasional leopard in the surrounding woodland. It suits a short two day safari well, either on its own or paired with a Southern Circuit itinerary further into Ruaha or Nyerere (Selous).
